Girls Circle
Girls Circle—Helping Girls Grow Up Healthy,
                  Strong, and Successful
                   for all girls ages 9-14

WHAT DO GIRLS WANT?
Girls want to be supported and have adults believe in them.  They want to know that even if they
have messed
up, they are still good kids.  They want to belong, to make a difference, to give
voice to their thoughts, values, and beliefs.

They want a say in the decisions that affect them.

While GIRLS CIRCLE focuses on meeting the needs of girls, it respects and believes in the right
to equality, dignity, and opportunity for everyone, regardless of race, creed, gender, or age.

WHAT DOES GIRLS CIRCLE DO?

GIRLS CIRCLE encourages the development of strength, courage, confidence, honesty and
communications skills for girls.

Our goal is to enhance girls’ abilities so they are able to take full advantage of their talents,
academic interests, career dreams, and potential for healthy relationships.
GIRLS CIRCLE can address and challenge cultural messages that limit and distort girls’ self-
image.  When girls can express themselves within a safe caring environment , they develop self
confidence, good relationships, and enhanced judgment and social skills.

GIRLS CIRCLE provides young girls 9-14 the time and place to enjoy the support they want and
need, and to grow as young women.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A GIRLS CIRCLE?

Six to ten girls meet for an hour to talk, do activities, write in journals, and simply learn how to
be comfortable being a girl.
At Racine Family Literacy the core GIRLS CIRCLE activities are coupled with homework
assistance and visitors/field trips aimed at introducing girls to strong female role models and non
traditional careers for women.
Girls are introduced to all the possibilities and consistently receive the message that they can do
anything.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN GIRLS CIRCLE?

GIRLS CIRCLE at Racine Family Literacy is open to 9-14 year old girls who can attend one
evening a week for 1-2 hours.

Girls who attend Racine Family Literacy with their families and are enrolled in Racine Family
Literacy’s After School Program are automatically enrolled.

Girls who wish to attend GIRLS CIRCLE on their own should contact Racine Family Literacy at
898-3968 to enroll.
