2008-2009 Highlights--
August:
  • RFL annual book publishing/school supply party.  Eighty-two individuals from 28 families contributed to             
    In Our New Language, 2nd edition.   See cover art (below).   Thanks to Kiwanis of West Racine, 30 families
       received school supplies, making a lot of children/parents happy!
  • RFL staff and families field trip to Modine-Benstead   Observ-
       atory.  A cloudy, rainy day, it cleared in time for some awe-
       ome views of Saturn and two moons.
September:
  • Police Safety Officer, Dan Meyer, talked to middle
       schoolers about bullying and other safety issues.  
  • Racine Theater Guild field trip--theater tour and
       learning about theatrical jobs and how things work.
October:
  • RFL staff attended a (PAT) Parents as TeachersPrenatal
       to 3 Institute.   RFL is now an official PAT program and
       Maribel V. a certified PAT Parent Educator.(See FSKF under
       "services" for more details.)
  • UW-Extension Nutritionist Fabiola Diaz  provided a
       certificate program on healthy cooking/diet.
  • Day of the Dead celebration--preteens created haunted house.
November:
  • November 7--State Sen. John Lehman, Miss
       Latina, Assistant Police Chief Steve Hurley
       Wally Rendon, Educators Credit Union, and
       others read to children at B&N to celebrate
       National Family Literacy Day.
  • Pre teens visited St. Monica's Senior Home
       to entertain and play games with residents.
